Creative Homework...(deadline: Monday 8th February 2016)

…has been designed to offer an opportunity for children to assume more responsibility in choosing, organising, presenting and taking an active role in their learning.  Children must complete a minimum of 5 out of the 11 tasks by Monday 8^th February 2016. In addition to this, they must complete the extra task which should be brought into school before Thursday 4^th February. Any children not completing at least five tasks (one per week) will be required to work at lunchtimes to catch up during that last week. The order of the tasks, the choice of tasks and the frequency of handing in each piece of work is up to the child.  ICT can be used as and where appropriate and if desired. Homework designs are completely up to the individual. This opportunity will enhance children’s learning, help prepare them for secondary school by taking responsibility for their homework and also make homework more enjoyable.

1. Create a diary for one week imagining you are a child who has/is being evacuated to the country.

2. Design a comic strip about one aspect of the war e.g. being evacuated, a bombing raid during The Blitz, etc.

3. Cook a wartime recipe of your choice. You can either bring in a photo of you in action at home as evidence, or, bring it in to class to share.

4. Write a book review for ‘Goodnight Mr. Tom’.

5. Write a newspaper report about a bomb dropping on Kelvedon.

6. Design your own ration card for sweets, include; which sweets, how many, how often, etc.

7. Create 6 mathematical word problems using scenarios from WW2. (Don’t forget to include answers).

8. Write a poem conveying the thoughts/emotions of an evacuee or the family that the evacuee goes to live with.

9. Draw a sketch of a scene from ‘Goodnight Mr Tom’.

10. Design a simple cross word using WW2 Vocabulary.

11. Create a model of a World War II shelter.

Extra Task

Make a gas mask box using a suitable cardboard box and string to wear as part of your outfit when we visit Duxford.
