6F Spellings - 'ous'

6F will be concentrating on the spelling pattern 'ous' for the next few weeks.

Top Tip: it is helpful to look at the root word to help with the spelling of each word. It is also important that the children understand the meaning of each word, the class (e.g. noun, verb or adjective) and how it can be used in a sentence.

'Core' word list

1.     curious
2.     serious
3.     various
4.     famous
5.     jealous
6.     dangerous
7.     obvious

'Challenge' word list:

4.     courteous

At school, the children will:
  • investigate the pattern
  • sort the words into groups / classify by spelling rules
  • use a variety of ways to practise the spelling of each word
  • play games to reinforce the spelling
  • use the words in sentences
  • complete short assessments

Any help at home with:
  • practising / learning the spelling of the words
  • testing
  • discussion on meaning and use
will aid the children's learning and reinforce what is being taught at school

Any questions, please come and speak to Mr Faithfull
