Spring Term - Week 1

This week's blog is written by Maddy and Evie-Rose

WW2 Learning

We have been learning about WW2 and this week we learnt about evacuation; examined WW2 evidence and medals and made our own propaganda posters.

As part of our WW2 topic, we learnt about evacuation. And to help us imagine what it would be like to be an evacuee, we wrote diaries pretending to be an evacuee. We also did hot seating - this is where we sat down in pairs and used drama skills to show the emotions that evacuees went through. We also had a look at some real medals from WW2!

Science - the eye

In science, we learnt about the parts of the eye and what their uses are.

Maths

In maths, we have been learning about coordinates and shape translation. We have done many activities involving translation including Sam and Maddy making up some translations for 6F. In addition to this, we had a parent workshop where the parents took part in the daily maths session. Some of the children even explained how they worked the questions out and they wrote it on the flip chart.

Art - clay models

In art, we are learning about Henry Moore so we made clay models in his style. He makes very simple sculptures.

Here are some photos of Mrs Lawrence's amazing WW2 inspired role play area.
